Funding Government Contracts

Everybody understands the current financial crisis. Over the next few months defaults on commercial properties are expected to cause more uncertainties. Unemployment is rising, etc, etc, etc. Sooooo…. if you are a finance consultant, or a business owner, looking for ways to make money during this financial debacle, and if you haven’t heard - the government is spending!

With all the bad news in the media, people fail to realize that there is still a tremendous amount of money available for quality companies and projects.

Although the larger banks have put constraints on lending, there are smaller banks that can be approached. Private finance companies, which don’t have the same constraints of federally regulated banks, have always had more flexibility in their decision making. There have been estimates that up to 80% of business finance is completed with private finance companies and not banks.

A huge amount of money that was not earning money in stocks, or money markets, has been placed with private finance companies where the investor can earn a higher return when the funds are used for business funding. Many of these private finance companies are more than willing to provide the financial support a company may need when working on a government contract.

Start-ups, riskier ventures, and day dreams won’t get funded, but businesses that have a contract with a government agency, or are providing a service where the government agency is the payor - there is definitely money available.

Businesses need to perform their research and determine what government projects they can pursue. Consultants need to talk with their network of funding sources, determine what funding is available for targeting specific niches, and then pursue businesses working in those niches that will need their government related projects funded.

Tips:
1. To find government projects, or for Consultants to understand what projects are available and therefore what companies to pursue for funding services, search the Internet using keywords such as: Government, State, Federal, Fed, City, County, Provincial, Parish, or District.
Plus both singular and plural words such as: Stimulus, Contract, Bid, Vendor,
Procurement, Construction, Courthouse, Commissioners, Clerk, Assessor, Commission, Request for proposal, Zoning, Vendor Selection, Infrastructure, Highways, Bridges, Offices, Agencies. There could be many more keywords words in the research researched.

2. During these financially trying times, there is still money to be made, but it is not going to walk in the door by itself. Research, determination, and perseverance must be in your tool box.
