Industry: Capital investments in the health care industry typically include transactions in new high tech equipment, medical devices, and bio-chemical products. These types of investments are normally high risk and expensive. The expenses are passed on which leads to higher overall health care costs. A funding company has developed a new financing program with a mission of reducing healthcare costs. This $700 million private equity fund is looking to invest in companies who have innovative strategies and products that provide cost saving measures to the patient. They have earmarked $500 million for growth and late stage companies. They don’t currently invest directly in early stage companies. However, they have set aside an additional $200 million for joint ventures with other funding companies. These joint ventures will provide assistance in moving an idea through the early stage aspects and in developing leading management teams. Investments, which the Funder is seeking to make, would have products that keep people out of hospitals and health care institutions resulting in reduced costs for the patient.
